Build an Ambient & Lo-Fi Helix Preset

Creating an Ambient and Lo-Fi Preset with the Line 6 Helix

 

1. Amp & Settings

  • Choose the ‘Moon Jump’ amp
    • Keep the cabinet settings at default
    • Set Bright Drive to 2.3
    • Set Normal Drive to 1.8
    • Increase Mids to 10
    • Increase Master to 10
    • Bias to 6.8
    • Bias X to 10

 

2. Add Compression

  • Add a compressor (L.A. Studio Comp) at 50%

 

3. Add Reverb

  • Add ‘Hot Springs’ reverb after the amp
    • Set Mix to 16%
  • Add Dynamic Hall reverb (on Path 2)
    • Set Decay to 12 seconds
    • Adjust Room Size to 30 meters
    • Set Diffusion to 100% and Dampening to 4.0 kHz

 

4. Add Delay

  • Add a stereo delay (on Path 2B)
    • Quarter note sync
    • Set Mix to 17% and Scale to 95%

 

5. Now Let’s Add the Lo-Fi Effects

  • Add ‘Vintage Swell’ (mono) delay block at the beginning of Path 1
    • Set Note Sync to eighth notes
    • Bit Depth to 10
    • Sample Rate down

 

6. Adjusting Amp for Lo-Fi

  • Set Sag, Hum. and Ripple to 10

 

7. Add Low-Res Delay

  • Add ‘Legacy Low Res Delay’
  • Set to dotted eighth notes

 

8. Adding Tape Delay & Cosmos Echo

  • Add ‘Transistor Tape Delay’ to Path 2
    • Set Mix to 20%
  • Add Cosmos Echo (mono) to Path 1 (before the amp)

 

9. Adding Modulation

  • Add ‘Retro Reel’ (mono) before the amp on Path 1
    • Set Flutter to 5.1 and Low Cut to 50 Hz

 

10. Final Adjustments

  • Adjust overall volume levels and effects settings to taste
